Community service is an important part of our brotherhood. We believe that giving back our time and talents to the Valparaiso community is a great way to make the world a better place, and ourselves more balanced men. We have spent time as a chapter at Hilltop Neighborhood House, Northwest Indiana Food Bank, Adopt A Highway, Porter County 4-H, Meadowbrook Park Preserve and more!
Hilltop Neighborhood House
Did you know that SigEp IN Zeta's house was once licensed to operate as a daycare? Our fraternity is committed to serving Hilltop Neighborhood House, a low-cost local daycare option for families in the Hilltop neighborhood of Valparaiso located only one block from our house.
Brothers in SigEp IN Zeta volunteer regularly at the Hilltop Neighborhood House. While our brothers are well-loved by many of the children, the boys there are especially appreciative to be able to relate with male volunteers. The entire chapter volunteers several times each year to help Hilltop deep-clean. We also participate in Kid Reach, an after-school program where brothers play games, read books, draw pictures, and simply hang out together with the students.
IN Zeta makes a chapter-wide effort to support the Hilltop House once a year through our chapter's philanthropy, SigEp Christmas. The chapter raises money to buy requested supplies as Christmas gifts which are donated to Hilltop. Once the gifts are bought and wrapped, a few brothers dress up as Santa Claus and his elves to take the presents to the children.
Our largest fundraising event for our philanthropy is SigEp Splash, an on-campus competition with various games amongst fraternities and sororities. The event is sponsored by several local businesses, and we are deeply thankful for everyone who gets involved in helping us promote Hilltop Neighborhood House's amazing work right here in Valpo. This year we raised over $2,000 for Hilltop!
