Chapter History
The organization now known as Sigma Phi Epsilon Indiana Zeta was founded as a local fraternity, Kappa Phi Tau, on April 29, 1947. In 1947 the chapter had thirty one members; by 1950, Kappa Phi Tau boasted seventy men, and began searching for a national affiliate so that it could better support its members. Kappa Phi Tau became the Indiana Zeta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon on May 5, 1956.
SigEp IN Zeta has a long tradition of leading progress both within our national organization and on Valparaiso's campus. Our chapter was the first at Valparaiso University to eliminate alcohol from its recruitment process, and the first to switch from a pledging process to a member development program that promotes continuous development.
